First grade Charley Harper
Students were inspired by the local artist, Charley Harper. Students will still paint the leaves and create a cardinal.

Abstract art names
Students created their abstract inspired art from the letters in their name. Their work was inspired by the Abstract movement in the early 1900s. (Kandinsky)

Leaf prints
Students used real leafs to create realistic prints. They used the warm colors to add a design to the background.

First Grade Abstract Art
The first two weeks of art were spent taking a pretest and learning about the classroom and expectations. The pretest shows the student skills at the beginning of the year. Students will be starting a project that is inspired by Abstract Art.

First grade Fall Leaves
Students created Fall Leaves by doing an observational drawing from a real leaf. They added detail and wind lines in the background. Next, students used the warm colors to paint leaves and the cool colors for the wind.

Save the Date for the Art Fair
Dec. 19th SLE will be hosting an art fair. This is a fundraiser to sell each child's artwork to the parents to make money for the art program. This money goes towards paint, paint brushes, paper, clay etc. Thank you for your support. More details to come.

Students created a pattern on their hot air balloon and painted the background to represent a time of the day or weather.

Welcome to the 2013-14 School Year!
I am excited to get our first project underway next week. This past week, students were busy completing their pretest assessments to chart their artistic growth. I am excited for a great year!
